They have led groundbreaking research in the field of cardiology, coached a Division 1 program to the NCAA Tournament, tested the first artificial heart valve in humans, traveled with the national tour of Cats and Wicked, and won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Political Awareness Award

Established in 2004 by Helena Milman, class of 1997. Selected by the chairman of the Department of Political Science, in consultation with the History and Philosophy Department chairs, the award goes to a student who has completed both junior and senior years at Rockford University and who has demonstrated extraordinary interest in the theory and the practice of politics.

Marion Carlson Seedoff Memorial Award for Primary Grade Elementary Education

Marion Carlson Seedoff, Class of 1962, and many of her family members graduated from Rockford College. Marion taught in the Rockford Public Schools for more than 10 years. The Marion Carlson Seedoff Memorial Award, given to an outstanding junior or senior in elementary education, is granted to encourage a student with an interest in the primary grades to enter the teaching field.

Delman Prize in Anthropology/Sociology

Named for Professor Emerita Dorothy Delman, renowned professor of sociology and 1942 graduate of Rockford College, who passed away in 2007. The prize is based on the outstanding academic performance of any full- or part-time student who has completed 30 hours in the study of anthropology and sociology.

The award is granted for an outstanding performance by an undergraduate chemistry or biochemistry major. The award is provided by the National Information Center for Polymer Education.

Tim Lydy Named Regent of the Week

Senior Tim Lydy (Aurora, Ill.) has been named Regent of the Week for the week ending May 3, 2015. Lydy recorded a pair of top ten finishes including Rockford's best performance at the NACC Championships. He placed 4th in the 10,000 meter run with a personal best time of 33:35.40 and was less than 7 seconds away from medaling in the event. Lydy also took 10th in the 5,000 meter race crossing the finish line in 4:41.23.

Cole Logemann Named NACC Position Player of the Week

Junior third baseman Cole Logemann (Lena, Ill.) was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Position Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. Logemann joins teammate Michael Murray as the only two Regents to earn multiple NACC Player of the Week honors this year. This also marks the third time in his collegiate career that he has received a weekly award from the conference.

Brian Wiest Named Regent of the Week

Senior first baseman Brian Wiest (Lake Zurich, Ill.) has been named Regent of the Week for the week ending April 19, 2015. Last week Wiest recorded an impressive .522 batting average with a .783 slugging percentage. The senior had 3 multi-hit games including a 5-hit performance against Lakeland. In that game, Wiest also broke the RU single game school record with 4 doubles. For the week he tallied 12 hits, 6 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.
