Senior Pitcher Kaleb Rich Earns Two Weekly Awards

2014 May 6

Senior pitcher Kaleb Rich (Washington, Iowa/Washington) earned the first weekly awards of his collegiate career early this week when he was recognized by both the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and D3Baseball.com for his gem on the mound last Saturday. On Monday, Rich was voted NACC Pitcher of the Week and then followed that up on Tuesday with a selection to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week.

With his team facing a win or go home situation, Rich pitched probably his best game of the season on Saturday at Marian. The senior tossed eight shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out eight to help lead the Regents to a berth in the NACC Tournament. Rich was rarely in trouble as he allowed just two base runners to reach second base with only one of them able to advance to third.

The Washington, Iowa native has put together a very impressive senior season for Rockford. Rich currently boasts a 6-1 record which ties him for the most wins in the NACC. He is also seventh in the conference in earned run average (2.04), tenth in innings pitched (57.1) and complete games (2) and eleventh in strikeouts (35).

Rockford (20-17) opens the NACC Tournament on Thursday, May 8th at 10 a.m. against top-seeded Concordia University Chicago. The entire tournament will be played at Kapco Park on the campus on Concordia University Wisconsin.
