Michael Murray Named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and NACC Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior guard Michael Murray (Princeton, Ill.) was once again recognized for the spectacular season he is having as Murray earned two more individual honors one of which came at the national level. Monday evening Murray was selected as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Then early Tuesday morning he was voted to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. Murray becomes the first RU men's basketball player since Robert Malone in the 2010-11 season to win multiple NACC Student-Athlete of the Week awards in the same season, and the first to be voted to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week since David Dixon in 2013.

Michael Murray led Rockford to a pair of wins last week with his eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season. Murray scored a season-high 31 points with 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks against Concordia-Chicago. He then concluded his week with 25 points, a season-high 19 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks vs. Edgewood. For the week Murray averaged 28.0 points on 51.4% shooting, 16.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals.

Murray has been one of the top players in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and in the entire NCAA all season long. Currently Murray ranks in the top 30 in the NCAA in nine different categories. The senior is third amongst all NCAA Division III men's basketball players with nine double-doubles, 15th in minutes per game (36.6) and defensive rebounds per game (8.08), 21st in total rebounds per game (10.8), 23rd in field goals made (104) and rebounds (140), 24th in field goal percentage (61.5%), 27th in points (287) and 30th in points per game (22.1).

The Rockford University men's basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday, January 12 at home against rival Aurora University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
