Mallorie Getzelman Voted Second Team All-NACC

2017 Feb 23

The Rockford University women's basketball team had a pair of Regents honored on Thursday when the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference released its 2016-17 all-conference selections. Senior Mallorie Getzelman (Bryon, Ill.) earned Second Team All-NACC recognition for the first time in her collegiate career, while freshman Taylor May (East Moline, Ill.) was named the NACC Freshman of the Year and also earned NACC Honorable Mention status. May becomes the first RU women's basketball player in the history of the program to be voted NACC Freshman of the Year. This also marks the first time since the 2010-11 season that Rockford had multiple individuals recognized by the NACC in its postseason awards.

Senior guard Mallorie Getzelman garnered her first ever postseason recognition from the conference when she was voted Second Team All-NACC by its twelve head coaches. Getzelman has been one of the Regents' premiere players for most of her career and saved her best season for last. She was one of the top offensive threats in the conference this season averaging the second most points in the NACC with 19.7 points per game. Getzelman seemed to have an uncanny ability to get to the free throw line as she attempted and converted a NACC high 126-of-154 attempts for the third best free throw percentage in the conference at 81.8%. In addition to her scoring ability, Getzelman was a solid all-around player for Rockford. This season she ranked third on the team in rebounds (5.2 rpg), tied for third in steals (1.5) and fourth in assists (1.9). Getzelman capped off her impressive career by finishing as Rockford's tenth all-time leading scorer with 1,108 points.
